BLU-RAY PLAYERS We generally feel that most major brand names offer a similar overall audio and video experience. However, there are some more expensive players which offer an increased level of performance. The general rule is to spend as much as you feel comfortable with. Sub $100 devices will generally not be built to last - as they say: you get what you pay for! Sony, Samsung & Panasonic are among the best of the mainstream brands. We generally feel that devices with trays last longer than those with slot loading disc inserts. We also like players with hard buttons rather than soft.

Sony's most popular Blu-ray player is, of course, the Playstation 3. It's a very solid device which supports all the major lossless audio formats and receives frequent software updates to maintain compatability with each and every Blu-ray release. There are several models to choose from, each offering differing internal hard drive options for storage. Prices range from $200 - $400 in the US and £189 - £229 in the UK. Of course, the PS3 also plays games and can serve as a network media player.
